I have a 85 pickup 4WD and it has the auto tranny in it and it will not downshift when you press the pedal you have to do it mannually. I was thinking it low on fluid or maybe a bad switch. I know not many people have auto tarnnys in the truck but maybe somebody can help. Thanks

 

Try swapping ECU's from another 4cy 22re auto trans rig.

Either that or it has some bad shift solenoids.

Could also be a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Does the speedo work?

Check to make sure all the wiring is hooked up to the trans.

i'd say its time to junk the auto and step up to a manual tranny.

 

Down shifting is controlled by presure, which is controlled by the throttle cable that runs inside the valve body on the tranny.

 

Sometime it will work correctly and sometime it wont. If that makes a diff

 

Did you ever get the OD light to work?

 

I took the light out of the other side and put it where the on and off one and it works but the backlight dosnt and the ECT power doesnt work anymore also is it a possilbilty that it could be a computer.
