84 hybrid timing cover question

I had to buy a new timing cover for my 22r/20r hybrid and it isnt flush with deck on top of block. Timing cover sits 1/64 inch higher on intake side and 1/32 inch higher on exhaust side of the top of the block. Is this ok or do I need to have the timing cover machined to match block deck?

Do you know which 22r timing cover vs 22r block you have?
There was a change in deck height to the 22r block around 1985 when they went to the "laser block".

The older one is taller than the newer one based on the specs I've seen for the blocks, so perhaps this is your issue? Wondering why you have a difference in height between left and right, shouldn't it be level?

Engine Block Identification
1975 - 1980 20R Block
Deck Height 11.280"
Stock Bore 88.5mm - 3.484"
Maximum Over Bore 90.0mm - 3.544"

1981 - 1984 22R Block
Deck Height 11.280"
Stock Bore 92.0mm - 3.622"
Maximum Over Bore 93.0mm - 3.662"
Big Bore Forged Piston Kit 94.0mm - 3.701"

1985 - 1995 22R-22RE "Laser Block"
Deck Height 11.090"
Stock Bore 92.0mm - 3.622"
Maximum Over Bore 93.0mm - 3.6662"
Big Bore Forged Piston Kit 94.0mm - 3.701"

Good luck, hope it works out for you. I've been considering the 20r/22r hybrid for my Hilux, but may just end up going 1uz because v8

Its an 84 block and and 84 timing cover. Its just slightly taller then the block by 1/64 of inch cause it wasn't decked with the block during the rebuild.
