2 Plugs behind cluster?

1985 4Runner. Ok I finished changing heater core and cleaning all the wrong things the last owner did. I think the last owner changed the dash I have two extra plugs can anyone tell me were they go? I know the plugs on the left are for the cluster. I think ones on the right are for Heater Blower Switch and one is for Rear Window Defogger Switch. But the dash has cruise control and some light switch I did not find a cruise control brain inside the kick panels. Please help would like to finish this stage and move to the next. Thank You
Justin

What were they plugged into when you took out the dash?

The owner before me had everything pugged in the wrong plugs. Dash lights did not work ac/heater blower did not work rear window did not work ect ect. Now it all works but I have those two extra plugs it looks like they were made to go down by the steering column. I just want to put it back together right the 1st time. Thank you for your help.

There's always the chance that they don't hook up to anything. I mean they hook up to something, but maybe it's an option your truck didn't come with. With my truck taking the dash apart is actually a pretty easy job so I'd just put it back together and see if anything doesn't work, but I think the '84's on were a much bigger pain to take apart & put back together. My truck has at least one loose plug floating around behind the dash. It's a base model; no AC. Some things were wired for whether the truck came with what they'd plug into or not, other things weren't, so...If you can't find anything for it to plug into, there may not be anything. Worst case, when it's all back together and you find out what doesn't work, then you know.

Oh, and check this, if you haven't already. Just scroll down to '79-85 FSM. What it is is a '85 FSM, so you may be able to find where they should hook up.

If you start at about page 799 you get into the dash plug-in's & instrument cluster

I'd say the plug on the left in your 3rd picture COULD be for the blower motor. It ahs the right number of connections inside of it... but that is my only justification. Although I'm very familiar with the 84-89 dashes, I've never had to do cruise control. But if there's no brain... there must not be any wiring.

If that plug is the blower motor switch connection, then the other plug taped up with it can only be so far away.

Those connections definetly don't go with the cruise control. It sure doesn't look like it.

I believe those 2 plugs are for the level guage/altimiter (option) that bolts onto the dash .

Nope.

The plugs for the altimeter/inclinometer combination are two-wire "T" plugs that supply power for the backlighting. The rest of the inclinometer package relies on weights and barometric pressure; nothing electrical.

Thus, those plugs are definetly not it. There are too many connections. I still stand by my estimation as a blower motor switch connection. But I'd just get a wiring diagram and figure out where those colored wires go.

The FSM shows the terminals in pretty good detail...

I think you might be right! I happened to be cruising an FSM for a 1985 and saw that the rear defrost plug also appears to be a possibility. So the plug taped up next to it... whats another switch next to the rear defrost button? Cargo lighting?

Ok so the two plugs we have been talking about are taped up with the deck light switch and the dimmer switch plugs.
