Having a fuel issue re; 1985 R20 orig carb. Two questions. Best gasket material to make and replace gasket between halves. As viewing fuel site glass: where should fuel level normally be? Mine is very low , barely visible.
Not sure what you mean by ‘halves’ there are 4 total gaskets between the manifold, spacer, and 3 sections of carburetor. Nothing is a ‘half’. Gaskets are very precise and small.
Gaskets come with the rebuild kit, or can be bought separately. However, I would recommend you get a whole new insulator from Toyota. The factory gaskets are glued on to the insulator and cannot be removed, and replacements stack on top of those. They are still available new, I just bought one last week, and the two carburetor gaskets can be had aftermarket.
Don’t try make your own, you’ll be replacing them way sooner. Honestly the correct gaskets are probably cheaper than a roll of material. Plus that’s just a janky, last resort way to do it.
Fuel should be centered on bowl. You have an issue with fuel delivery to bowl, or your float isn‘t working right. A full tear down and rebuild takes a day if you’ve never done it, I had a shop do mine for $120 plus rebuild kit. Well worth it.

Here's what the standard fuel level is supposed to look like thru the sight glass
The manual says that on a "look check" that any level between the "tabs" is OK, but IMO dead in the center between the tabs is best.
You'll have to take the top of the carb off to access the float & bend the tab that contacts the shut-ff valve in order to change the fuel height level.
Here is the procedure & specs, pages 4-20 & 4-21. http://www.retrojdm.com/ScanViewPage...Carburetor.jpg
