Vaccum Mod for 22r

I have a 1982 toyota pickup 2wd with a 22r motor. I want to block off the egr system, cut out many hoses, and get rid of my charcoal canister. I need help though to figure out what items I need to do it. I also need to know what to do with the 2 fuel lines going to the pump from the charcoal canister. I know I need the hose going to my AAP on the carb but what to do with the other two hoses coming off the bvsv? I understand the egr has to be blocked off with a three bolt hole'd plate on the intake manifold. But I think there is another place on the head that needs to blocked off as well??? Help.............:con :

Start here and see if you still have some questions. A Factory Service Manual is also your friend.

This is really informative. I am going to plug off some lines now as I have removed the egr system and the charcoal can. But now I need to know if i just block off the fuel lines for the charcoal can or if I reroute them. Two of those lines go to the fuel pump. And the is a port on the carb from the charcoal can hose. I just block that off right?

I haven't desmogged my truck. I did a poor man's version of blocking off the egr (I just put golf tees in the vacuum lines), but other than that, my trucks carb & emissions stuff is as close to stock as I've been able to figure out how to get it. Some day I'll get a Weber but until then it works good enough for me.

What are you hoping to gain by removing emissions equipment other than space ?

I gained quite a bit. Space, ease of maintenance, improved reliability and performance by ditching the stock carb setup and all the associated vacuum... the list goes on.

What would you rather work on?

Before:

After:

and I've not even replaced the exhaust manifold yet. this is an excellent modification to any truck that is in an area that does not have a visual emissions inspection. even more so if your truck is a 50 state version.

I am so close to doing the weber conversion.
Since you are in Portland, you take your truck through DEQ?
I believe my failure at DEQ could be a result of a vacuum leak, no luck finding it...
Did you go with the 32/36?

ocdropzone don't go weber if you need to retain the EGR/PAIR unless the 81 kit doesn't delete it. I believe it does though on those. I know one of these weber conversions is emissions legal but not sure which one, I believe it might the the water choke ones, but not certain.

oregon DEQ told me there is no visual inspection on my truck. they confirmed for me that nothing OBD1 or older requires a visual. Therefore, if the truck is running good, it will pass.

I got the 32/36 DGEV from redline.

the only caveat is, if you were equipped with a cat when new, it has to have a cat. a cat does help reduce emissions and there are some nice modern cats that will not impair performance.
