My 83 sr5 has the factory l52 transmission in it with the top shift transfercase. What is the best swap to do to it to give it a new tranny. I've heard the 86 four runner tranny is a good one? What's all your guys ideas!!!

The L52 is decent. For a swap, W56 is great. You'll need to do some mods. 4Runners, as far as I know, didn't have any special transmission. So 86+ Runner or pickup would be fine. Sounds like, if you can find the rare 4cyl turbo, that's the real strong tranny. But any W56 should be good. Will bolt up to your engine, but you'll need driveshaft mods, and possibly need to cut the gear shift hole in your cab a little farther back. And move the crossmember back a little.
