shift boot

i'm looking to replace my factory shift boot on my 81 and was looking at this one...think it will work? the only thing that worries me is the large black surround...my truck doesn't have that.

that ebay one you found looks to be a w-56 like I used for mine. here is what I did for it from my thread...it is actually about an inch too long in the middle, As far as that surround I think it is just a piece of rubber similar to what I used as an extra seal. hope this helps

decided to try to the U Pull It again,
bought a couple out of a mazda truck and one out of an '87 4Runner (w/56), grand total $5.46.
The 4Runner shift boot is about 1" too long in the middle so I cut about an inch or so out of the middle and grafted it together, added a flat piece of rubber to help seal:

yea, mine was leather at one point and had dry rotted. i still have the rubber surround and right above the trans, a new boot would just clean it up a bit.

Judging by the time stamps of this thread, the rubber shift boot has been discontinued for sometime. Now you can finally get a new replacement:

Thank you. It's good to be here. My Yota is a Land Cruiser FJ40, but I love all Yota trucks.
