I recently acquired a 77 Toyota hilux pickup that I got in hays Kansas it has a rebuilt 20R with a 4spd and it has a lot of rust the rockers and cab corners are gone and the floor is getting there I’m only 17 I’ve got a welder and the basic tools how should I go about fixing the rust I can do floors it’s just rockets and cab corners are new territory for me and they don’t make patch panels so how should I make them thanks for any help
Do some searching on the site and the build thread forums. A lot of other ppl have had to deal with this too.
body work is a skill and takes lots of practice to get really clean lines but if youre just looking to seal the cab in, get some sheet metal to match the panel thickness and start cutting and bending. If you mess up, grind it off.
Nice looking truck! Take care of it and itll last you a long time.
The cab corners will probly be hardest. You will probly have to pull the bed and then make the bend so it fits the lines of the truck. But the good news is most of it will be covered when the bed goes back on.
