rear exhaust fitment

rear exhaust fitment
Does anyone know if a newer tailpipe muffler one piece will bolt on to our trucks? Like if I buy a rear exhaust for a 1984 4wd pickup, will it fit on my 80?
There are no systems in a box for our trucks, and I would prefer to go that route. I understand there will be some issue with hanger variations but lengthwise looks like it should go. Has anyone tried this?
my 80 was non-catalyst and I had a single pipe that ran from exhaust manifold all the way to back of cab, there it mounted to rear section/muffler. I installed header but still kept factory flanges in place at back of cab.
it looks like in 84 everything was still in the same places.

Probably just have to hang out a bit and wait for someone who knows to show up. No need to bump the thread unless it makes it onto the second page.
I'v never done what you are asking but did have a muffler shop weld on a red hot and new muffler, once. I took them the muffler and glasspack and they provided the rest of the tubing and welded it on. It cost less then 100 bucks at the shop. I don't remember what I paid for the glasspack and muffler though.

You can go with a 84+ standard cab (Short/long bed depending on which bed you have) and you can make it "fit" but it won't be a direct bolt on. The reason why companies like LCE don't make bolt-on exhausts for 1st gen pickups is because there are subtle differences between the years and models that make a it difficult to simply bolt on. The biggest difference is the exhaust hanger locations. The geometry between of the actual piping of the first and second gen trucks is pretty much the same so there shouldn't be a need for much modification of the piping (if any). You would have to make and weld on new hangers in the appropriate locations.
Eventually, I plan on buying a stainless exhaust from LCE and modifying it to fit my 83.

thank you Dave, I'm gonna try it out. I found a Bosal setup for short box 84-85 4wd I gave 60.00 for it plus shipping will let everyone know whats up when I get it. looking at EPC hangers are different but look to be in the same places. anyway this is one loud SOB running just a header.
