OM617 swap engine bay pics

Who has photos of their MB diesel swapped engine bays? I'm wondering how some of you have setup your first gen pickups, particularly the oil cooler setups and glow plug timers. I'm currently in the process of mounting the relay box and wiring in my Doomsday Toyota wiring adapter. I also need to ditch my coolant overflow tank, but not sure what to do about the wash fluid tank also.

Mines still very much in progress so won’t be of much help to you. Are you using the mercedes radiator? I am and so since the radiator doesn’t have a cap you need an expansion tank which has the pressure cap on it. You can buy aftermarket aluminum or steel ones for pretty cheap.

My plan for the oil cooler is to run a cooler and remote filter in one circuit. I bought a little 8 or 10 row (can’t remember) oil cooler, the adapter plate from doomsday, and a remote filter housing. I’ll run JIC hoses from engine to filter, then thru the cooler.

As for glow plugs, I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet. I may just wire them into a momentary switch instead of the ignition.

I don't think I'm going to use the Mercedes radiator, its a little tall, even with a 1" body lift. I'm needing to build a new crossmember for the transmission now before I do a final positioning of the engine since pulley to radiator support clearance is a concern still. I have the little expansion tank too, but space is pretty limited in my engine bay. I've installed the doomsday adapter for the oil filter housing already, I have the double filter head and t-stat also. I'm planning on cutting the fittings off of the Mercedes oil cooler and tapping them out to m18x1.5 to use a pair of adapters to -10AN so I can mount them on the radiator support under the grill. I saw this done on a first gen 4Runner on here if I remember right. The doomsday wiring kit was a breeze to use and it really took the guess work out of setting up the glow plug timer, wait to start light, and shut off solenoid, worth the cost and looks really clean.

Monger, are you using Doomsdays Mounts and oil pan?
I just got my engine bay cleaned up and am putting my parts list together. I don't want to cut the torque rod off if I don't have too and I'm going too do my best to use the Yota rad.

Yes, I'm using almost all doomsday diesel conversion parts. I already lifted the truck beyond the reach of my torque rod, so I haven't had one for a few years. I also trussed the front axle also, so it got cut off when I welded the truss and knuckle gussets in.

Any updates on your guy's builds? I just picked up an OM617 and I'm getting my parts list sorted out.

I tried the MB and the 22r radiator and they're both too tall,, even with a 3inch body lift.. I went with a 19" tall x 22"wide x2.75" thick dual row chevy small block radiator from speedway motors, both the outlet and inlet are on passenger side of the radiator. It should work perfect and allow room for a 16" fan hopefully.. ill let yall know.. Im also cutting out the bottom core support and rewelding and reinforce with flat bar and angle iron, after I come up with a clamp/ bolting configuration for easy radiator removal.
