went pick up the parts truck,i got there, fought with what seemed like 200 wasp and hornets, and many unknown strange creatures.
finally loaded the truck on the trailer with the 500 honda.

the bad....floor pan rotting out,no key set or door locks, missing door window.

the good....decent 30 in buck shots, engine looks pretty good, weber carb upgrade.

more bad, someone supposedly stole the spare axels, tranny, and t case.
im certin the seller sold them.
hes nowhere around and wont answer my calls.

purs like a kitten...no smoke,no overheating,drive train works!

Well if he's nowhere to be found then maybe something of equal value might get stolen. Jk. That is really the pits. Hope you get it straightened out. Best of luck.

the spares he had were in rough shape,im over it.
i got no proof he sold the extras anyway.
im still happy with what i have!

but still.....a man should own up to his words.
those axels and t case have been behind his shead for over 2 years.
he stated when he showed them to me....youve got over $1000 in spare parts for free.

besides if i woulda been steeling anything, woulda been his 4x4 atv,or his harley,boat....ect....not a set of axels.
i just dont believe anyone carried off with a set of axels, case and tranny without his knowledge.

does anyone reconize what model carb and spacer i have.
carb states weber seriel # 5847,ive googled it,but no definite model, one site leads to a 32/36,another to a 38 model.
spacer/adapter looks to be 1 peice.

after hours of trying to locate a new floor pan, like many folks here....i cant find one.
so i may opt for a 87 ford ranger cab, build a steel flatbed.

i may part out the cab and bumpers...ect.

ill start a different thread for the 2nd yota,1 thread for 2 yota might get confusing.

Glad you seem to like the Rock gaskets, and I love the look of the truck! I have been going back and forth with engnbldr's gaskets and unsure of what to think. Nice to see an opinion on other brands.

You could fab a floorpan for the 2nd yota. I'm not too much of a fan of the ranger cabs. But getting a good running truck is more important than looks.

i dont have a clear tittle on the flatbed,it has a bonded tittle.
i was looking into replacing the pan.

back to yota #1

for $141.37 i got the head bead blasted,crack tested,valves and seats re-worked,and a 0.10 shave,plug holes re-taped.....then a leak down test.
heck of a deal in my opinion.

shes a runner,i have 1 water leak under the intake,1 water leak at the timing cover.
like an idiot i forgot the bolt hidden by the timming tab....so oil leak it is!

new filters,plugs,wires,cap,rotor....accelerates smoothly, havent put a timing light on her yet.
has a rough shaky idle.....but the important part....no smoke from the exhaust,no valve ticking,no overflowing radiator.
i only ran her 10 mins.

will finish it tomorrow.

thanx for the congrats bro!

sealed up all the leaks, drove 35 miles today, runs nice and cool....plenty oil pressure.
got to my dads house, shut her down.30 mins later went show my dad the truck, fired right up,hit the accelerator a few times to let her rev, after a few revs so suddendly died, wouldnt fire back up untill i poured gas in the carb, once fired she wont idle.so i raised the idle, ran ok for 5 mins, now she wont idle again.
she puffs light black smoke while reving indicating running rich, but at about 4k rpm she puffs light white like shes burnning oil.
ive checked the timming, distribitor, the fuel pump....all ok.
new fuel filter aswell.
she has no hesitation on acceleration, she barks the tires from a rolling start when i get into the gas in first.
she idled smooth up untill a few mins ago.
im hearing a ratteling noise from the rear of the engine too.

but it felt great to drive her around,im getting lots of looks from bystanders....ive never seen another old yota in my area.

I think its a carb problem, as soon as i pour gas in the carb..... Fires right up, adjust the idle, runs great for a few mins.

Yeak i work offshore , doing a 28&14 schedule for international construction group.

More breakage....went offroading......had to go in the mud....lol. i started bogging down.....turns out my driver front caliper locked up ,the little yota pulled me to dads house though, calipers and pads will be here tuesday evening.
I may come tomorrow and change the brake booster and fool with the carb.

Well congrats on getting as much done as you have so far man!!! I know how frustrating it can be to do a bunch of stuff and you get it running down the road and then all of the sudden something else happens. HAHAHA! I know what it's like, "I know that it prolly aint a good idea to run through that mud but it's gunna be so much fun!!" Been there so many times myself! Keep up the good work man!

i found 2 matching vin plates for a 85 toyota pickup in the glove box of the flatbed, seems like someone was gonna do a vin swap to get the 81 tittled.
hmm wonder if the 85 tittle can bo obtained....lol.

i got no use for these plates....unless i keep digging and find a signed tittle......with bill of sale in my name!
but i wonder if my 81 is really a 81?
what would be different between 81 and 85 yota?

with a 81 bonded tittle,with a set of 85 vin....im thinking stolen yota.
