Low RPM stumble/hesitation? BOG

I went wheeling yesterday, it was going great. I was driving kennebec pass 11,600ft and started near Hesperus 7500ft. I let my friend drive for a little on the way up. He started to say how it was feeling like it was trying to bog. This is the first pass I have driven in my truck, I told him it was probably just the altitude. I started to drive, it did feel boggy but once again this is the first pass I had done in my truck so far and just went with altitude. I did the pass and on the way down the bog never really left and still hasen't. It seems like it is having problems at lower rpms, it rev's free, but when I put it in gear to go it bogs. I just have to use more gas to go now and keep my rev's higher. What the hell did I do?

Is my fuel filter in my tank before the fuel pump?

Do I have to drop my gas tank to remove my pump and filter?

My fuel filter is in the engine compartment on the passengers side wheel well (this appears to be the factory location). Mine also had a second fuel filter just outside the gas tank (not sure if this was factory or not). There is a screen on the pump (which is in the tank on most if not all 79's I believe) to keep junk inside the tank from getting sucked into the pump.

Rather than drain and drop the gas tank (mine was pretty full when I put in a new pump), I took out the bed bolts on the passenger side and loosened up the bed bolts on the drivers side then just lifted up the bed on the passengers side and propped it up. Then I accessed the pump from above while it was still bolted into the truck.

I'd start with the fuel filter. It's cheap, easy to replace and if you haven't changed it in a while, now's the time. You may find that when you pull it off, a bunch of brown junk comes out. Sometimes all that wheeling can loosen up crud in the gas tank which will get sucked into the filter. Happened to me twice in my old 4WD rig.
