loosing coolant

k i have a 1982 22r with about 140,xxx and this thing pretty much drinks the coolant haha. so ill fill it up and i say about 4-5 days later this thing is pretty low but all the coolant is going into the coolant reservoir so idk whats up, first yota but this gettin kinda irritating so any help is appriciated thanks aloha

From: California Screw them smog laws.
Check your rad cap.

check coolant lines going to block, heater core..etc from radiator, make sure that theres no pinholes or cracks, even around hose clamps..
also sometimes you need a rad cap that has a de-pressure valve on it..was the case in my '80..would overheat and boil all coolant out into overflow until i changed it.
also check that you have the right temp. thermostat..the lower temp the better

A lower temp thermostat is NOT better, most engines run most efficiently at around 200* and wil use a thermostat that will fully open at 185 or 195*. When you run a lower temp stat the engine can't burn all the fuel as effently and a good portion of it goes out the exaust. When EFI motors first became popular we would run a 160* stat to make the ecm deliver more fuel thinking the engine hasn't warmed up yet, it really didn't help much and it only made them smoke at idle.

k thanks ill get a new cap and thermostat my engine never heats up so the guy before me prolly just took it out and yeah the coolant lines are pretty rusted out but i just changed the upper and lower hoses a month ago
