Interchangeable body parts between 2wd and 4x4?

So There is a local guy parting out a 79 2wd
and i was wondering if the hoods and doors would fit my 83 4x4?

I searched and searched last night and all i could come up with was
the fenders are different. Which is obvious,
and help would be appreciated.

your search was correct, the front fenders are the only major difference, they work but just don't offer the flare coverage of the 4WD.
doors, hood = straight swap.

the bed fender flares are the other difference

Along these same lines, does anybody know if the 81-83 22R engine is interchangeable between 2wd and 4wd trucks?

The research I've done has only given me information about '84+ trucks (in which the 22R is not directly interchangeable between 2wd and 4wd because the oil pan and oil pickup are different, is this the same case with older 22R's?)

Thanks!

Yeah, you can interchange the two engines.
Just change the poil pan and pickup. It's not like it's hard, if you have the engine out.

What about power steering components? Can you take them from a 2wd and put them on a 4x4 that never had PS?

I cant speak for these early years, but I had an 85' 22R 4x4 that didnt come with power steering but I installed it.

I think I got the reservoir and misc brackets out of a 2wd 87' 22RE at the wrecking yard. I think the gearbox and the pump came out of a 83' (?) 4x4 as I got a pump too, but it mounted different than the 84' and newer trucks.

It was a weird swap. Kinda a PITA, but somehow it worked just fine and only cost around $50 or so. Good luck and if you have questions on the install let me know. It was a few years ago, but I still remember most of how it went together.

Yes I was wondering also about interchangeable body parts and windshields. I have a 1980 4x4 crawler that is needing a windshield and other cab parts but I have looked around a lot and can't really get any info about it. I would like to replace my front floor pans, doors, and Windshield but I am unsure of which years I can utilize for parts. Any information would be a huge help.
