I stole these from Brian (waskillywabbit) I think it is one of the best examples of IFS box mounting I have seen, wish I had seen it when I did mine:

Hope and pray you make it back from the sandbox safe and sound. From an old Army Vet, remember to aim center mass..thanks for serving

I have since cleaned up the hole I cut there showing the IFS box/mount so it is more open and less likely to cut a philage.

I will get some more pics when I do my front shock towers.

Mine is mounted almost exactly like that, I even cut my inner fender identical to that. All I did was made the steering shaft and steering box input shaft line up in a strait line and made sure the pitman cleared and the spring didn't bottom out on the pitman nut.

Question Do you have to install High steer with 3' suspension

Got a Question I cannot find in a search , is it a must that you have high steer with a 3 inch lift or can you still run with the stock push pull for a while this application would be on an 85 solid axle runner with 2 " body already .

______________
85 sr5 4runner
2" body/ And collecting parts for 3"
have 3.5 superlift rear springs and was thinking of stock rears up front with 6" shackle thats in the rear now.

You need 3" of lift and an IFS steering box.

The whole point is to get your steering links above your springs and to throw the crappy push pull box in the scrap pile.

To clarify, you need a 3" suspension lift as you need the room between the frame and the axle up front to fit the steering components above the axle. At 3", it is a tight fit, BTDT:

My '85 w/ 3" suspension lift and the old low crossover steering and that was a tight fit, took a few iterations to space the drag link far enough up to clear the springs yet not too high so as to hit the frame. As is, I think the paint on both the top and bottom of the drag link got scraped off:

When I had cross over steering installed on my '85, we had to drill out the pins and slightly extend the steering shaft to fit the IFS box. All depends on the year of box you install and how far forward on the frame you install the box. Easy to extend:

You can. A cheap investment is the drop drag-link, which corrects your steering geometry somewhat.

Everything but the p/s box works fine with cross over steering. So pump is fine, steering shaft is fine (may need an adjustment), hoses are fine, reservoir is fine, etc.
