Fuel Idle Cut Solenoid
#6
My Hanyes manual says Cali exempt in the wiring diagram. Thanks for posting a pic. I dont have anything like that on my carb. I do have a solenoid on the passenger front side but it does not look like that. It has a spring with a rubber washer on it.
This is a factory truck with no mods as it was my dads (I learned to drive with this truck)
It is a 1981 SR5.This thing is driving me crazy trying to figure out the idle problem.

I will check what toyotapartszone says on the 81 the one I checked you can see the years the cali spec included.
The solenoid you describe sounds like the outer vent solenoid. As I don't believe there is any other sol. on the carb.

If I remember correctly, the idle fuel cut solenoid is on the passenger side rear of the carb. So if you've got nothing there, then yeah, you must not have one. It is a "common" cause of stalling on these trucks though, even with rebuilt carbs.

I have read the trouble with rebuilding and was wondering if anyone has bought a reman carb from someplace and had good luck with it...If not, I guess I will go the way of the weber.
Of course, then I have to deal with all the emissions stuff.

Hey Guys,
Sorry to have not posted sooner...The problem was the solenoid but I think the EGR is bad also as it doesnt pass the vaccum test. The truck is idling a little rough but at least it is running all the time now.
I am thinking about blocking it off rather than fork out 200 bucks. Whatcha think?
Thanks for all the help.

I just plugged all the egr lines with golf tees. Someday I'll make a blockoff plate. The EGR is probabaly a good thing when functioning properly. But in trucks this old, they're pretty much never functioning properly, and the easiest most cost effective fix is just blocking them off.

fuel cutoff solenoid
I just had my first experience with this solenoid. Didn't realize this would be on a non fuel injected vehicle. I was given a jump by someone who accidentally crossed the connection. It blew the fuses of everything that comes on with the ignition. I couldn't keep an idle. Fortunately I found a thread on this forum that lead me to the issue. Nice simple fix.

Hi
Last weekend my son jumped incorrectly and damaged the Alternator, replaced it but now engine wont idle. How did you repair your solenoid not working?
