What year/engine? Califormia smogged? Stickers in the engine compartment might clue this. If you posted this already, sorry. It just doesn't look familiar but I can look at my '83 22R ...which is NOT California version.

I'vw rebuilt a couple 22R engines and repainted every bracket on each - I've never seen that bracket. The only thing that those two engines had in common were that they were both non air conditioned trucks. I imagine that what you have there is a bracket for the A/C system if you have A/C in your truck.

I am almost certain that connects to where the AC would be at on the timing chain cover on the passenger side of the cover. Seems like it takes up the space for the longer bolts that are used when a motor doesnt have AC added to it. I could be wrong, but there is one similar to it. I dont have my old motor at the house to look here to look at.

I've got my engine mostly back together but it's been awhile since I tore it apart and I can't seem to remember what this bracket is for and where it goes. Little help please. Thanks!

Okay sorry guys, either I'm retarded and this is the wrong spot or something hasn't been milled right. Here's some pics. I can't get the top bolt to line up and it looks like there's some imperfections in the milling.

Your bracket is slightly bent to the right but someone milled your head wrong. They took material off the front boss where the top bolt of the bracket bolts on or it is a different head. I have a modified high performance 20R head on my motor but my bracket came off the stock 22R head and bolted right on without a problem. You could install nice washers or fabricate a spacer to make up the difference.

My engine uses a 95 block and 20R head and as far as I know all 22R series parts pretty well match up. I run the slanted front valve cover but the non-slanted valve cover will bolt on if I wanted to use that style. I know there are some differences with AC compressor mounting brackets, fuel pump mounts, power steering pump mounts, etc.

I think the a/c bracket won't fit because the block is taller. And the new square style valve cover has more length between the two throttle cable bracket mounting bolt holes than the old round style valve cover. I wonder if I need late model 22r brackets?Did toyota have late model 22r's in the u.s.?
