83' broke down already.....
Well I bought an 83 a few days ago. Just go it insured today and its already got something messed up in it. I was driving up a gravel road and stopped for a sec. When I tried to start again the tranny wouldnt shift into first, or any other gear for that matter. It seems the clutch has no effect anymore. I can force it into reverse and if i get rolling downhill i can pop it into first and drive without a clutch but it seems my clutch is shot. This cant be good. The truck drove perfectly fine the whole way home from where i bought it (3hr drive) so I dont understand how this would just happen all of a sudden. The throw bearing was making a bit of squeaking but to my knowledge that isnt really a big deal. Does anyone know what it could be? Im an not as familiar with the 1st gens but have always heard how good they are....but im thinking i should have stuck with my 92!

Ive talked to a couple of people who know first gens a bit and they both think it is either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder. How do I find out which one it is and whats wrong with it? Possibly a plug in the line or a blown gasket? I dont think its a break in the line because My clutch fluid is pretty full. Ah so frustrating. I just hope it doesnt need a new clutch..

ok .. so these clutches are pretty simple .
first of all there hydrolic ... so check for leaks !!
fluid level is first !! + there is a master cylinder , slave cylinder -- to clutch . check master for leaks , usually the will leak past the main seal , and "spit" fluid out onto the floor .. so check your carpet for "wet" slave is pretty simple .. it is eather leaking at the "boot" or not ?
If your resivior is full .. then it's your disc . simple as that !

Try turning the truck off and try to shift. if it shifts it's most likely not the transmission. When my clutch master cylinder went out it would work but only if I double clutched ( pedal in to place in neutral, pedal in to shift to gear) If it's doing this then it's either the master or the slave cylinder. How many miles does the truck have? It may need a new clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and pilot bearing. Hope this helps

So i went and checked the slave cylinder and it was functioning properly so I talked to the guy at the transmission shop and he said it was the clutch
So i brought it in and am awaiting the huge bill...
