1979 Toyota pickup electric fuel pump question

I recently picked up a 79 Toyota 4x4 20r it has been sitting for quite sometime and I am trying to get it running. I am able to keep it running by manually pouring fuel in the carb. So I figured it’s gotta be the pump I noticed where the factory mechanical pump would be there is a block off plate. So I figured they wired up a electric but I can’t find it under the truck is it common that when you do the conversion you put the pump in the tank? Everyone that I have seen they mount it under the truck on the frame rail

I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable will speak up, but some of these early carb engine trucks were factory equipped with electric pumps.

Yeah man I’m confused I swear my 1980 had a mech pump super weird that they would switch to a mechanical pump after having an electric.

I think most if not all '79's came with an electric fuel pump in the gas tank from the factory. That is the case for my '79. I think Toyota switched to the mechanical pump in '80.

Awesome thanks for the replies guys. Does anyone know if there is a fuel pump relay anywhere? I checked all over the rig and online and I didn’t seem to find one

Yes it's under the dash on the driver's side. It's a little hard to see.
