82 pickup with 88 22r

I just bought an 82 pickup 4x4 that originally had the 22r in it but the owner said the engine went on it and he was in the middle of putting in an 88 22r.

He has it bolted in and mated to the transmission already but none of the wiring has been done. From what ive read there would be quite a bit of rewiring for me to make this work?
Ive looked around and cant seem to find anything on doing this as far as wiring goes. He also has it pretty much torn down to the block so there would be a lot of work to do.
Is it pretty much plug and play? Should I look for another motor that is for a 79-83? Or should I try to find a donor truck for the 88 engine to get the wiring harnesses?

Theres lots of info on this if you look around. The wiring changes are not that significant. If you get a haynrs manual, it will have wiring diagrams for 20r and 22r motors. In terms of wiring this is almost as easy a setup as you will find unless the PO destroyed it already

Search for threads where people rewire their ignition or add an sr5 dash or rewire alternators.
