Hi, I pulled out my plastic side panels, and cut some 1/4" plywood to fit, and mounted 6x9s to that next to the rear seats. You can sort of see it in this post:

I got some speaker cabinet carpet and stuck it on there with spray adhesive. It looks way better than the factory plastic and cuts down on road noise, and the sound from the speakers is much better from that location.

DeathCougar used the side pocket spot, removed the plastic piece and installed the 6x9's there. you'll have to ask him for a pic.
I had 6's in that rear seat spot, but recently replaced them with rollbar speakers. Pics are in my build up in my sig. The rollbar speakers are waaaay louder .

I don't know if 6x9s would fit but 6 3/4" round went in nicely without too much trouble

there are also some photos I put up there that will allow you to see what the structure underneath looks like.

I put my 6x9s in the stock rear location behind the stock panels.
I'm actually considering moving them up closer like RMA above did. Without carpet, and my header and loud exhaust they are pretty inaudible from the front seats.
