Ran out of gas

A buddy of mine has a 2005 V8 Tundra, his girlfriend ran it out of gas. After they put some fuel in it, it will not start. It tries, but no go. Is there anything that needs to be reset??

I don't believe anything needs to be reset.
could be a clogged fuel filter
how sure are they that it ran out of gas?
can you hear the fuel pump come on when the ignition is turned on?
Im not familiar with the engine, is there a schrader valve on the fuel rail?

As above, it may be a clogged fuel filter from sucking in any gunk at the bottom of the tank. Try a new filter and I'd suggest a clear line to see what may be getting sucked through. I'd also suggest not letting the girlfriend run your truck completely out of gas!

My neighbor ran out of gas -- or so she thought. Funny, after putting gas in it, it wouldn't start.

Turned out her timing chain went.

I don't know how accurate this is, but i heard its bad on your fuel injectors to run out of fuel.... So hopefully there isn't a problem there

It's bad on your fuel pump to run it low much less out of gas. The fuel is what cools the pump and when you run it down there's nothing to cool the pump.

with that said tho, ive seen a bunch of gm's with blown fuel pumps, and never seen a yota...the fuel pump in our older suburban went out 3 times, once with half a tank, once with like 1/4 of a tank, and once when moms ran it down to E...
