I was kinda skeptical about using an abrasive compound like Ajax on my tires, but low and behold, it works! Look at that shiny new lettering! Thanks Corey!

That's the way I have been cleaning tires since '75.

I have tried Comet powder in the past, but it does not foam up as much as Ajax does.

Here's a pic from last year when I had white letters.
I now run the white lettering in.

Now all you need is some Meguair's Endurance Tire Gel on there, and they will be super black like this.
The Enduance will keep them looking like that for more than 3 weeks, as long as you don't drive through to much water.

Cool, you will probably find that the Endurance will look much better too on Ajaxed tires.
As the Ajax gets off the surface crud that would otherwise prevent the Endurance from sticking well.

Will Ajax get the brown residue off the tires?

The brown can be from two things.
One, oxidation
Two, Armor All.

Yes, using Armor All can make the tires after awhile do that for some reason.
That's why I quit using it several years ago.

If yours are brown, it's probably a combo of layers of built up dirt.
Get a good scrub brush from Safeway, the kind with a handle on it that wraps around your hand.
Get that baby wet, shake a lot of Ajax on it, and scrub.
It will probably take about 2 to 3 times in a row with spraying it off and doing it again to get all the layers off.

Then put the Endurance on them after the tires are dry.
That feeds the rubber with nutrients (damn, I sound like a health club here) that will help against ultra violet break down of the rubber casing.
Stuff really works.

I didn't have any ajax lying around so I tried OXYclean and it works to the same caliber. I just wish it worked on fabric as good as it showed in the commercials.

I had the same problem and used Comet. That worked really well also! Just another alternative to use when you want to brighten up the letterin'. It makes a hell of a difference. :fireman:
