Talking Cleaning an oily engine

My engine had a nasty coating of oil on it. I suspected a bad valve cover gasket but there was so much oil on the block I couldn't be sure.

I tried a solvent based cleaner but it didn't get all the baked on petrolium off, it did however make a heck of a mess of my driveway.
I seriously considered using Easy Off Oven Cleaner as a last ditch until a friend recommended trying Simple Green.

It worked a treat and it is boidegradable.

Oh yeah, it was the valve cover gasket that was leaking and after using a neoprene one the leak is gone.

Clean engine, no solvent smell, non corrosive and biodegradalbe. Simple Green gets Mack's thumbs up

Kewl...I never have tried Simple Green on the block as I always use Gunk Foam Engine Brite.

I do use Simple Green on the entire chassis, shcoks, wheel wells, diffs, whenever it's bath time for the rig.

I'll have to try it next time in combo with the Gunk when I clean the engine again.

Speakin' of stuff to pickup there Krash...saw your seat cleaning post.

Prior to me using the Tuff Stuff on the seats, I used a small steam cleaner.
It's a Bistle I believe, or a Hoover.

It looks like the big kind you rent at supermarkets, but it's baby sized.
Perfect for doing a rigs seats & carpets, and handy for small spills in the home.

Picked it up a week after I got the Runner to get rid of the big dog smell.
Took it right out.

Bout how much did it set cha back?

Cause the seats aren't that bad.. I gave up on the carpet.. even though tough stuff did a really good job at cleaning up its just wore out... I'm going to call accmats.com tuesday and see if they can send me some samples. Then after I get the sound deadening I'm going to install it. My list of stuff to do grows everytime I go out there and piddle around in the truck. I finally got most of the smell out its tolerable for me... like you I'm anal about clean.

edit: something like this?

I think I paid less than $100 Nov. of '98.
No, not like that pic. Those are not powerfull enough.
It's got a body on it like a cansister vac, and a 6' hose.

But it's compact. I'll try and snag a pic of it sometime.
