lower knuckle cap...

for some god awful reason my lower knuckle caps are being a HUGE pain...i finally got them out but it just broke the outter cage off the bearing and the inner is still STUCK on the pin...any 1 els have probs with this? any suggestions on how to get it off without fubaring the pin?? i tried a propane tourch and smacking it with a hammer but yeah right..

You could try cutting it off with a dremel, just be really careful and not to go into the pin.

yeah i was gonna try an air cuttoff tool but yeah i dun wanna mess up the pin in doing so..

Just cut mostly through it and it should weaken it enough to get it off. Also if you do mess it up a bit just put some jb weld on it and smooth it out.

Yes, a cut off wheel of some sort should do the trick. If you can get a light cut across the race, try hitting the groove with a cold chisel and hammer to shatter it (wear goggles).

Likely someone put in new bearings and did not check the fit of the bearing on the center pin. I always check and if the bearing will not slide easily over the pin, grab some emery cloth and clean up the pin until it will slide into the bearing. This would be the last thing you want to have happen if you have to tear an axle apart on the trail.

haha yeah i think i read that off ur website..im not sure if it was rebuilt or just at the bottom of a lake for a couple of years lol the whole thing looks ruff..it came out of a mud truck with 44"tsls and a 350..dunno how it survived..

I had the same problem with mine. Grind a groove then hit with a chisel just like 4crawler said. works perfect. also works well on rear axle bearings...

yeah thats a no good..i cut it as far as i could without getting into the cap "i even got into it a lil bit" smacked it with a chizel about a million times heated it with a torch hit it some more...bolted it to my bumper bracket "yeah it fits lol" welded the knuckle race to it backwards so i can get some chanel locks on it and it moves....barely in a circle about 1/2 inch...smacked it a million more times...used a claw hammer to pry...friggin nothing is working
