You can solder the ground wire to the cradle for a good connection. The only risk of explosion would be if there was a spark. For example a loose ground or hot when the pump is juiced that creates an arc. I beleive that a pure current can run through gas with no ill effects, the current just can't cross another. If there is any way to dig the connectors out of the plug (like many Toyota plugs) and re insert them, thay'd be your best bet. Also, talked to the Gardner Bender techs and they don't reccomend any of their shrink tubing to be in a gas bath envoronment.

This is serious stuff you're dealing with. If you solder (the gnd), make sure the surface on the cradle is super clean, use lots of flux, and use a propane or MAPP torch to get the cradle up to temp to bond with the solder, then insert the wire into the puddle (flux the wire also). If the metal that the solder is being bonded to isn't hot enough to melt the solder itself, it will not be a good bond at all and may fail someday. Give a few tugs when cool and you should be good....D

I tested today and ran fine , the shrink tubing will hold ok I submerged in gasoline for two days and was fine so i deside to leave it that way until i can find a pump assembly at a salvage , went to work and back total of 2 hours in the road , seems ok . But dont trust it .
