Painting Stubbs Sliders

Painting Stubbs Sliders
I know this subject has been covered, but I'm looking for a general consensus. I originally painted my sliders with black Rustoleum "Hammerite" paint and they ended up almost gray. What exact paint did you guys use to get a nice, black finish on your sliders? I'm going for the black powdercoat finish, so the sliders will be the same color as the brush guard. Thanks!

yeah, that hammerite stuff does dry into a grey color.
why not hit it w/ rustoleum flat black or a semi-gloss black? you'll have to anyways, right?
edit: most likely your brushguard as a semi-gloss coat to it. definitely semi-gloss paint

Yeah, I figured I'd need some type of semi-gloss to match it up a little better.
Has anybody tried black, Rust-oleum Satin? There's a can out in the garage, it says it has a low sheen finish and is good for outdoor furniture and stuff. I might give that a try.

Bottom line - don't forget primer.

I used some sort of non-skid paint from Wal-Mart, works well, you don't slide too much, and it doesn't chew up the back of your legs like the 3M traction tape stuff. It unfortunately requires primer (didn't put it on and will have to repaint this summer) but it looks cool. It won't match your brushguard, unfortunately, but gets my vote as the right paint.

I bought a can of black Rust-oleum Satin today and put about 2 coats on top of the grayish Rust-oluem hammerite paint. The sliders look a lot better, they are a deep black color and match the brush guard, but aren't overly glossy or shiny. Assuming that it holds up well, I think the Satin finish is a good choice for the final coat of a set of sliders.

I just repainted the passenger side slider (didn't have enough daylight to the other one yet, yeah, it looks ghetto). They were originally painted in what looks like a semi gloss or full gloss but had dozens of rust spots. I dug out the belt sander and got them all down to bare metal (with the help of some sanding by hand) and hit it with a few coats of primer then right on with the flat black for a few coats. it hasn't dried yet but I think it looks almost like theyre powdercoated. Very neat look if you ask me. Ill try to post a pic
