Yep, it is pretty close to being able to swap front and rear shafts, not stock one but modified. On my '85, with front axle moved ~3" forward from stock and dual cases, I was able to make up a spare drive shaft that can work in front or in back. Up front I think I need a compressed length of around 33" and in back something around 40" long. So with enough slip yoke travel one shaft fits both locations. I had the shop that built the shaft use ag-spline and basically stuff as much male spline in as would fit. Note I run CV shafts on both ends.

(When installing duals)I suppose the front driveshaft wouldn't have enought slip to work on the rear, but I wonder if a stock rear would work on the IFS front...one way to find out.

Probably not, the stock rear shaft (SWB) is probably around 48" long and has the same slip yoke travel as the front so it won't compress all that far. Once shortened for the 2nd t-case it is closer in length, but even then you need upwards of a foot of slip yoke travel, fully compressed for the front shaft and fully extended for the rear. But it is doable, I actually have two spare CV shafts that will fit either end of the rig.

Makes sense. I'm not trying to imply coming up with a shaft that's interchangable for both positions.

Anybody want to chime in on the subject of who makes the best case adapter and gear set for a dual case setup? (Marlin,Advance Adapter,Trail Gear, Inchworm) are the ones I know of and been researching.

That question can get more emotional than factual ... Marlin was the innovator, still has the strongest bearing setup IMHO.
