does anyone know if 2005 Tacoma buckets will fit in 1987 base pickup? i know some mods will need to be done just need to know if size will work.

I just measured both, my 89, and my mothers 2005. The seats are nearly the same size. The 05' is a little narrower by one inch, but taller and longer by one inch.

The mounts are obviously now where the same, but the seat do fit the space in the cabin.

Good luck, I would like to see this happen.

Unless you have access to them and they're cheap, I would look into different seats personally. This is because you say you have standard cab; leg room is already tight. Stock bench seats for single cabs don't have the same depth as standard truck seats and you'll lose room from the backrest to rear of cab. IIRC some of the thinner seats for max leg room, come from vehicles like rav4/crv, scions, etc. no matter what, you're likely going to have to modify the bracketry to bolt most new seating in.

I was reading somewhere on here that the SR5 buckets are pretty much a direct swap. This may be the road you want to take if you're as crafty as I am. And of course if this is true.

I would imagine that they will work. Providing you can get your brackets lined up with your floor mounts.

2007 Tacoma seats in a 91 standard cab.


They fit perfectly, but require custom mounts.

Unless your seat is 'broken' I suggest looking into re-upholstering. Less mounting re-work hassle and you get a NEW-er product than if you put used seats in. My 2 cents.. but not what you were asking.

did you lose any leg room? my in-laws tacoma needs new seat badly and these look awesome - i know they feel comfy since my SIL has an 05 Taco. when i did this to my old datsun, i lost about 1-2" of leg room - very noticeable if you already use the seat all the way back.

A bit, but hardly noticeable to me. I can move it all the way back at the same angle as my stock seat and taller drivers fit in just fine.

I used some seats out of an e30 BMW in my 2wd 1986 standard cab. NONE of the holes lined up so we used 4 pieces of square tube welded to the floor of the cab (reinforced, of course) as mounts. If you're not familiar with early BMW seats, they're pretty slick and can be raised, lowered, and adjusted forward and backward.

If you get them from a coupe, they sort of raise and fold forward to allow for extra storage behind the seats. I have put my husky tool box (flat kind) and a Pelican rifle case behind mine.

Another great thing about them is they match the era of the truck, and look factory. To me that's huge.

Looks great. I think I might have to look into this because I have a 1994 extended cab with the split bench and the universal tear in both fabric and siding right where the backreast and seat meet. I have also noticed a new clicking sound in the backrest springs when I move around, as if something is out of place. Bucket seats would be a sweet change, but this is a pretty sensible option too.

So would 1994 SR5 bucket seats be a swap for my 60/40 split bench? Anybody done this? Or is it too expensive?

Done this. Passenger side is an exact fit, but with driver's seat, just three of the bolts align. So, you'll have to have a small bracket fabed for the front right bolt because the seat bolt and the floorboard hole are off by, maybe, three inches.
