prerunner S/A 85...... yeah i know :)

alright heres the situation, i have a solid axle in the front but i want to be able to blaze a trail ( in a spirited way) without relocating my spine. would the downey cantilever suspension work on the back as well as the front?? and is there any way to increase the width or stance of the truck (besides rims and wheel spacers . ) Basically im looking for parts to my 85 into a race truck w/o IFS. any suggestions ?

There is a reason high speed trucks, and buggys have IFS. There is also a reason rock crawlers have solid front axles.

im full aware of the physics. im just tryin to make the ride smoother at higher speeds, i know its never going to be as good as IFS but i dont mind.

I've taken my pickup hauling ass through the desert. I got leaves too. Its not THAT bad.. ofcourse, I wasn't hitting huge jumps or doing anything mega retarded either, I was just hittin 50-55 on these old dirt roads that lead off in every direction (old ranch roads now owned by BLM)

I did jump the truck a few times though, not very high, but it jumped.

i have an 85 that i dream of turning into a prerunner.. look into the 7s class i didnt find alot of pictures but enpough to inspire me i dont actually want a "race truck" but just a "do it fast in the desert truck" they pull 16 iches of travel and do pretty good through the desert. lemme know wut you think of the prerunner addaleafs i was thinking of those..

I don't know what you mean by diving board on the rear.. My truck has the stiffest rear suspension ever. Maybe thats what you mean? I can barely make it flex at all!

Put on a mild lift springs, like the OME 2" lift springs and gas shocks: http://www.arbusa.com/

The reason your ride is stiff now is that the stock springs have sagged to the point you are riding on the overload leaves and probably have all of an inch or two of uptravel. A few inches of lift will give you a much smoother ride. For width, get some wheels with less backspacing than stock:

Or put an '86 or later rear axle in (3" wider).

kingbrian: ill let you know about the leafs (they will tested first on the HD downey springs first) 7's class ill check it out

M.W. : yeah the guys over at downey called the lack of sensitivity in the rear the diving board affect (got lots of that with HD springs....the purchase of those springs probably wasnt my best choice for my style but.....live and learn. )

4Crawler: OME heard lots of good things. as for the spring problem, i think you hit the nail on the head. New rims on the way (got them old skool solid white ones , kept tellin myself i was JDM hahahahaha

THANKS
