Need To Replace Catalytic Converter,
I need to replace the catalytic converter on my 84 4Runner, but the problem is that the converter on my 4Runner has some kind of sensor that slides into a tube and bolts on. im guessing this is some kind of temperature sensor ?. Now for the problem, i can find replacement catalytic converters everywere but none of them have the tube that the sensor slides into and bolts onto. So i was wondering if i bought a new replacement converter and carefully drilled a hole in it in about the same location as the stock converter and then cut the tube off the old converter and welded it onto the new converter do you think it would work ?, i sure don`t want to go to the dealer and pay around 300 dollars for a new one.

That tube u are talking about my friend is an O2 sensor. But anyways, make sure u look for a vehicle specific Cat, some universal cats won't fit well without fabrication.

I'm not sure its a O2 sensor. I have the same thing on my 83. The O2 sensor is up higher.
I replaced the cat a while back with one that did not have the "tube". I just tucked it up out of the way. Did not notice one thing different. And has passed smog at least 3 times since i have done that.

I know its not an 02 sensor, the 02 sensor is located in the exhaust manifold. I was told its some kind of a temperature sensor, but i can`t find any real information on what it actually does, so that why im asking if my idea above will work. I don`t want any problems when i try and smog it.

I've never seen anything like that before and either had my dad.
