Drag link poping out?

Alright ladies and gents, Ive got a major problem, I SAS'd my 89 2wd. I changed all the links and tie rods and such. I rebuildt the Drag link myself everything looked alright. It was fine through dirt and climbing rocks, But as soon as i started to flex the axle out it poped out...twice, I put it back in and everythings fine again but I know if I flex it will pop out again. I'm at stock height using the 85 diff/leafs/driveshalft and so on. So what can i do? Anyone have this problem before? thanks

It sounds like its not put together correctly or something is broken in the link because it shouldnt slide out without those little cups cracking or being really worn out.

Maybe you need a drop link

drop link? I used the picture 4crawler put together, and it already is the 4wd box...so should i take it apart again and redo it once again. Because I'm stock height, so would the drop link help at all?

I dont think stock height would require a drop link i just didnt know if there was some mix up with the 2wd to 4wd thing

But yeah all i can think of is the stuff is really worn out in there or something maybe someone else will chime in with better ideas

Does your drag link sit about level with the ground?

Sounds like stock ('84-'85) push pull steering then. If so, are you tightening the end of the drag link as tight as you can get them"

I made up this little tool for snugging mine up:

Are the balls on the pitman and steering arm visibly worn? If they ride in the proper spot they cannot come out unless the ball is worn smaller or the cups are inlarged or broken. Peel that boot back and look at the movement as someone rocks the steering wheel back and forth with the weight on the suspension. The ball should never get to the big part of the opening.
On my cap nuts,(the ones the cotter pin goes through) they are a little recessed into the drag link.

Which one comes out? I bet the rear.

I screwd it down as much as i could with a Large screw driver with a wrench on it

Alright sounds good, I will try that in a bit. when I pulled the steering knuckle off, it had a grove in it. A buddie welded it and smothed it out. And yes the rear one comes out.

I would have done it in a heart beat.. but you need at least a 3'' lift. Otherwise i would toss all this drag link crap in the garbage. I'm going for a more stock approach, just 33x12.50 tires locked front and rear, since its my daily and i need it to be practical

So you are going to do some triming to fit those 33's? Otherwise they'll get chopped up by your fenders. My 32's will rub when all twisted up and I have 3 inch lift springs and longer shackles.
