Ticking sound.
There is a slight ticking sound coming from my engine bay. It seems to come from the driver side of the motor. I had it checked out at the dealership and they said it is normal. Does this seem normal? BTW. It is a 2001 4runner limited with 56k miles. I also have a 1997 limited (with 158k miles) and it does not make the ticking noise. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

I am not sure if it is the same thing, but I have a ticking sound that comes from a module/sensor on top of the Charcoal Canister on the driver’s side of the engine bay.
Not sure if this is normal or not....

I'm new to Toyota, but didn't they switch from timing belts to timing chains somewhere along the line? Anyway, whatever the sound is, if your Toyota dealership says it's normal, relax and forget about it. They are doing you a favor.

I have the same ticking on the passenger side of my 98 3.4. I can hear is slightly at freeway speeds too. It is the EVAP valve by the charcoal canister and heard this was normal. I know there was a fix for some late models. You can distincly hear the noise coming from there if you lift the hood and listen closely to it.
