HEEEELP MEEEE!!!Rattling front end driving me NUTS!!
HEEEELP MEEEEE!!! I have a '91 4Runner with extensive modifications. Lately, I've been getting an increasing amount of rattle coming from somewhere within the front end. It sounds as if it's either the halfshafts or the hubs. It is not the locker "ratcheting"-- Hubs are unlocked.
Anybody else have or ever had this problem? IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY

Thanks for the reply
I've tried that. Actually I just had the halfshafts replaced after tearing off the end of one in the right hub.
I thought for sure that would cure the problem, since this has been going on for a while.
I've taken the wheels off more times than I care to remember, bounced a rubber hammer around, tightened afew things, but to no avail.
Anybody else?
Maybe it's time for the solid axle conversion

Do you have a grille guard?
If so, check two things. Check the mounting points to the frame, make sure they are not loose. Then check the bumper mounting points.
The reason I say this is that I used to have a 92 with a grille guard. When I hit any bump, it would sound like the wheel was loose or about to fall off.
I didn't realize it was the grille guard until someone pounded on it and it made the exact same noise.
If your grille guard has any mounting points on the bumper, it may cause the bumper bolts to loosen.
Hope that helps!

Rattle
My brush guard is welded to the frame. It does it on and off road, with or without the hubs engaged...I think maybe a little less with them engaged. Mostly It happens when slowing down to a stop. I've driven next to a wall at high speed and I can't hear it, so I think it only happens at low speeds.

Rolling Drunk
Rolling Drunk There were many casualties--mostly empty Budweiser cans raining out of every crevice of the dudes truck. These guys rolled him back over, and his truck almost crushed my 4Runner!
Looked like fun. Big 'ol Chevy, no lift, just some major fender trimming, 44's,no doors, and a full cage. The thing had dents all over the place!! I watched he and another guy with a Blazer also with big 'ol meats, go up a side hill to a crazy angle, roll their rigs onto their sides, pull themselves out, have a beer, roll em back over onto their paws and keep on going!:pat:
