Frame recall notice

Just got a letter from Toyota saying my '02 Tacoma is subject to a possible recall on the frame. I've tried to search here, but didn't have any luck. 150% Kelly Blue book wouldn't be bad, but I'm not interested in losing my truck. Any have a bad one??

Where are you? I am sure it makes a difference in: a) how much rust you have and b) how willing Toyota is to remediate it.

I've replaced a few of those frames under warranty. When they come into the shop, we grab the biggest hammer we have and start hammering on key points on the frame. If the hammer makes a hole than the truck goes under review for a frame swap candidate. Toyota splits the cost with the frame manufacturer.

Dana supplies frames for Ford, Toyota and other car manufacturers but each frame is built to certain specifications presented by the car manufacturer. Now to my understanding, during production of the Tacoma frame, something must have gone wrong causing the frames to prematurely rust under harsh conditions.

Here in Canada Toyota was buying the trucks back for 150% of the listed value. I know several guys who bought a couple just to sell them to Toyota. Before they went to the recycle yard there were about 50 trucks sitting out back of the local Toyota dealer.
As in the U.S. Toyota will not buy them back anymore they replace the frames.

I had my 96 Taco bought back by them. It was a trying process. The rep was not very helpful.. I waited like 8 weeks after my "diagnosis" to get the cash. I bought my 4runner the same day. I wish I held out though as there were many better deals for me if I waited even a few weeks.

Heres the life of my taco
Bought in Winter 05 135k 5500
Put 80k on it Tires wheels lift
Sold back to Toyota for 9150 with 215k

Tacoma Recall

Just bought a 2010 FJ TT in Nov. Traded in my 98 Tacoma. Toyota called me about the frame recall and bought mine back $9436.50..... Thats what I received from Toyota. It's 1 1/2 times the Kelly Blue Book value. From 97-00 truck will be bought back if it has the problem. 2000-2009 (pretty sure its 09) the frame will be replaced if it has the problem.
