Rear storage On the Cheap
Been puttin this off for a while,(collecting needed material).Had some plywood left over from a project at work.Picked up some 1x8s at Lowes today.Everyhing else already had on hand.Needed a project for a WEBELOS Scout badge so got some good help from my son.
Started out with this
Then went to here.
Still have some prettying up to do,but at least I don't have to unload my camping gear if I need something out of the boxes now.I've seen better looking units, but never any better help.

thanks all,the "drawers" actually slide very easy. Will get some tie downs for it later & a locking door to cover the opening. The ammo boxes were 5 bucks each & the 1x8x10 boards were 20 bucks for 2.As I said the plywood I scavenged from wrk.Litlle money invested is mainly what I like.I use 2 large action packers for my camping stuff & they will slide in on top & still allow access to stuff in drawers

ya caught the 2 sizes.the only square i to get the center straight was set to 16" centers so yeah its about 3/4 of an inch to one side.oh well.maybe i'll think up some high tech reason for it.i dont claim to be a carpenter

I love the simplicity of the storage area. I too have access to ammo crates, and they make great drawers, although until seeing your thread, I'd never thought of it.
Please tell me you're bolting in that Hi-Lift!

I'm glad you brought up the high-lift.I would like to know of a good way to mount it to the factory roof rack & get it out of the vehicle.Any ideas & pics?

Great project to do with your son. I went through scouts (got my Eagle) and my dad and I did lots of camping projects together. Built a trailer, colapsable john, compartment box(like yours) for truck. Great way to spend time bonding.
