Heater control cable needed!

Does anyone know where I can get a heater control cable for my 86 4runner? I'm sick of opening the hood to turn the heat on or off. The heater temp cable snapped and I can't find a replacement one. Anyone sell a new one?

If there is a pic n pull near you, you can find one there, or you dan call yota yard, there located in denver, and they will have one. Ive bought parts from them in the past and they have good service. Do a google search and you will find them.

After you get the cable, your going to have a good time replacing it. Ive replaced heater cores and that cable in several 86 4Runners, its a time consuming job.

If you still have the original heater control valve under the hood, its just a matter of time before it siezes up or starts leaking. When i got my 86 4Runner the heater valve was shot, so i upgraded to a heater valve from a 90 and up truck/4Runner, its a better valve and won`t sieze up or rust out.

Thanks. I do smell antifreeze when I open the hood sometimes. It could be from that valve .

my question is where is the rod broken, the rod attaches to the dash heater lever inside behind panel and it just has a bend in it that fits in a tiny hole, my old 87 and 84 that bend broke off leaving just a straight end, so I took needle nose and made a 90 degree bend in the rod and put it back in hole and bent it all the way back and so stopping it from poping out of hole again, the rod is very hard to bend so it'll take some doing in the limited area. When the engine valve on firewall gets messed up the rod kinks behind panel and doing it mutiple times weaken it and just breaks, with it bent shorter the heater control on the temp doesn't go all the way to the end of the red area, but doesn't matter because it will be maxed out like normal because the rod is shorter now so don't force it all the way over...Any questions just ask...I hope this helps!!!!
Ps. mine broke because the control valve pivot point where cable attaches was rusted, so I drilled out pin and put in a bolts but used the while nylon washer as spacer and grease so the metal to metal like it used to be at the pin area doesn't get rusted again making the valve harder to open and close...Have fun!!!!

I got a new cable from www.1sttoyotaparts.com. I do not remember how much it was, but I think it was about $25. I agree with everyone here that you need to fix your control valve or the new cable will break again.

The cable connects at the hot/cold selector, along with the cable for the flap. If your valve is stuck on and not plugged, then your heater core is getting flow. If it is stuck shut then it could easily be your problem. I have never bypassed one, but I doubt it would be a problem other than contributing to heating up your cab in the summer. You can try taking it off and soaking it with WD-40 to free it, I have done that before and had it start working again.

I'm parting out an 86 pickup and it should be the same part. LMK if you're interested. I'm in OH so shipping should not be much.

ive got one as well. can prolly put the cable in an envelope if needed, or if you need the valve, or heater controls also, would have to box. from 88 4runner.
