Replacing both TRE's at the same time is the best way to do it.

Or you can polish these turds until they SHINE:

Done.

Took me 1.5hrs from start to finish. This included breaking out the tools, chasing down my puller, and cleaning up after.

I'm with superbleeder, the puller made everything smooth. The taper-fit was snug, I had to break out the breaker bar to crank on it. Once it popped, I belted a big "thank you!" for the neighbors to hear.

The new TRE had about 1/4" more threads (was 1/4" longer), so counting threads wouldn't have helped, FWIW.

So I tried replacing my tie rod ends, but for some reason the inner tie rod ends and adjusting sleeves are rubbing on the frame. What could be causing this? My truck is a '93 pickup with IFS, 2 inch body lift and 3 inch suspension lift if that helps. The tie rod ends are from Moog, are those reliable?

I would guess perhaps your pitman wasn't centered when you attached the tie rods, so it is swinging too much to one side. If not, then maybe a bent center link, or a wrong-size idler arm or pitman arm.

I had moog tie rod ends for a bit, they lasted about 2 years before they started to rip and wear out. I also had a problem with my tie rods hitting the frame, turns out I installed the tie rods backwards (inners installed where outers shouldve been), that combined with play in my idler and pitman arm allowed the tie rod ends to contact the frame (and punched the grease fittings into the arms!).

Now I run XRF tie rod ends.

oh and make sure you have the adjuster opening on the tie rod sleeves facing down so not to gather crud, and don't be stingy with the anti-seize!
