FIPG on rear axle?

I got my 3rd member back and I'm cleaning up the axle before I reinstall. The last place that fixed it used FIPG at the end of the axles and the half shafts attach. I don't remember there being a gasket there the last time I changed the inner oil seal....just an o-ring.

The few write-ups I've seen don't mention a gasket of any kind.

You're talking about where the axle bearing housing bolts on by the brake drums, correct? I've never used any sealant or gasket there. The axle seal is what keeps the diff oil from leaking out. The 4-bolt flange is just a mechanical attachment. In fact, if the axle seal starts leaking you'd rather have the diff oil leak out right there if it could. Otherwise it goes through the bearing and into the brakes, neither of which is good.
