Race seats are made to be mounted to an in cab roll cage using tabs. I put a set of Beard seats in my buddys Toyota using the stock brackets. All you really need to do is take the stock seat and take the back off and the butt cushion, then you are left with the rails, sliders. If you either make or buy tabs, you can mount the seat to the stock seat frame. The tabs look like shock tabs and they are made to be through bolted with a nut.

I've used the Corbeau Baja-SS seats, with the Corbeau Brackets. A very nice seat and worth every penny. I would use them again. A little less expensive than the Beard, but still fully suspended, comfortable, and tough.
http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/160690.jpg By the way, the Corbeau Brackets are nearly identical to standard poly seat brackets. The standard poly seat brackets are a little less expensive. I'd recommend slider/tilt brackets if going in a 'Runner. They will mount flat. You can use your old seat frames like Yota82 says, or do some easy fabbing.

Thanks. It came a long way. VW's were my other hobby. Some pics of the build (and a few past projects) here:

Check out PRP suspension seats. A lot of guys on Pirate run them and really seem to be happy with them. If you check out their web site, they make brackets to mount them in different vehicles as well.
