Help with 4 runner please/power steering
I'm looking into buying a nice 4runner from a friend. He says that when the power steering is hooked up, it burns up and out the exhaust. So, what could cause the power steering fluid to end up in the exhaust system? Is this a serious problem? Do I need to include any more info on the vehicle? Thanks for the help.........

It's not possible./ it most likely oil coming out OR coolant . The power steering runs off a pully . It sounds like there are problems with the 4runner ,
-That's my opinion .

Would it have been too much trouble to include more info on the vehicle?
Here's what the problem would be if you had first generation 4Runner. On the top of the power steering pump is a valve with vacuum hoses connected. This valve allows a little air to bypass the throttle body when it senses an increase in the power steering pressure when you turn the steering wheel. Turning the wheel adds a load to the engine, and this valve keeps the load from stalling the engine. When the valve develops an internal leak, the engine vacuum will suck the P/S fluid from the system. This should be a cheap and easy fix if you have a wrecking yard nearby.

SIDE NOTE: This looks like a parking lot fix?

and oh yeah, shouldn't take but MAYBE a minute to pull a valve off a junkyard motor, and maybe a minute and a half to pull the bad one off your engine, and put the replacement on
just be ready to loose a little bit of PS fluid, as a little bit will come out of the hole when you remove the valve. all it takes for the swap is a wrench and I'm willing to bet it's the same valve on the 3.0's and the 22re's
and just FYI, the PS fluid is ATF, as in automatic trans fluid. don't make the same mistake I did and use actual PS fluid that made my gearbox leak like a sieve

Sounds like I'm buying out the loan and 2,600 is what it is. I think I'm going to buy this for my wife.
