PS pump is making some noise

I had an odd smell last week and a few minutes ago I figured out what it is. At idle the power steering pump is making a "toasted bearing noise" and is smells. I checked the fluid and it's full although it has the feel of PS fluid instead of ATF.

I did some searching and all the rebuild threads on a PS pump were for the pump on a V6 and mine is the 22re. So is this an easy rebuild? Would it be better to just get a new one (I HATE to spend a bunch of money though) since this one has been run with the wrong fluid for all this time?

Thank you in advance.

from what i hear, the rebuild is fairly simple across ALL the toyota models... and IIRC, a rebuild kit is only 27 bucks or so... compare that to the 120 bucks i paid 2 years ago for a crappy kragens remanned pump, i'd rebuild any day...

Do you know if it requires any special tools? I don't have any bearing pullers or a press or anything like that. All I have are hand tools.
