Coolant Leak, front of engine
I rebuilt an 85 22RE to drop into my 84. It only has 600 miles on it but I've got a coolant leak that drips from the front timing cover. I used a new timing cover, water pump, and used the paper gaskets and some sealant when buttoning up the timing chain area. Do you think it's a faulty waterpump? I really don't feel like ripping apart the front of the engine for this leak.

Did you use sealant on the water pump gasket? When I rebuilt my head last winter I used sealant on that gasket and it leaked. I asked about it on here, and found out that people have better luck not using sealant on gaskets that are around coolant. I followed that advice and used the gasket dry and have had no leaks.

X2 give it time to cure. I worked motor assembly at ATK, and we used to finish the motor, throw it in the frame and test-run it. about 1 in 5 would leak from the water pump housing (o-ring and grey thermostat sealant). They began allowing the motor to sit till the next day before install = no more problems.
