Do they make shift kits for Toyota trannys?

Do they make shift kits for Toyota trannys?

I have 154,000 miles on my 2000 2.7L auto runner. It is starting to shift a little sloppy when stuck in traffic, and when doing three point turns. Is their anything I can do to make it shift a little firmer? On old American cars you can get a kit for 25 bucks, drill out a hole and install it between the valve body and you can get anything from slightly firmer to tire barking shifts. Is their anything like that for our Toyotas? Can it be done with line pressure or a computer chip?

That URD product is a short throw shifter for manual transmissions. Completely different thing despite the similar name. I have heard good reviews of it though, paddlenbike. Try searching TTORA.

tom_mag I hate to say it but I doubt you will find anything. Not saying you won't but I have never heard of a valvebody kit or chip for a toyota, even the newer ones. Companies like B&M focus on domestic vehicles, although in the future they wont be able to ignore imports, with the direction the auto industry seems to be headed.

change your fluid, other then that there is really not much, not to sound like an jerk but you bought an auto, and autos get sloppy after they gain mileage. sorry man

you can get your valve body modified at IPT for about $600 and it will clean up the shifts. however, it sounds to me like you need a good flush and some fresh fluid.

There was some company offering something for this. Had a kit that would allow you to control the shifting and lock up the torque converter stuff like that. I'll see if I can find it again.

Thanks for the info guys. I noticed that I had somehow turned off the ECT power button on my tranny and that was the biggest part of the problem.

I'll change the fluid again just to be on the safe side.

Level 10 & IPT offer the same service, modifying the valve body, the only difference is the price. Level 10 advertises $ 700. while IPT says $ 525.
Shipping is extra. They are both in New Jersey.
You have to remove the valve body yourself & send it off for the service which takes about a week.
I can't believe they are the only two in the entire country that can perform this service. It would be nice to find someone out west !! Oh well.....

I think John over at IPT used to work for Level 10......which makes sense why they are both in NJ.

Wont be such an animal. Back in the old hydralically operated trannies, you could toss out check balls, drill large holes int ehj separator plate and toss out a bunch of accumulator springs. But now days, shifts are all electrocnially controlled. But there is no reason why one couldnt figure out how to reprogram the ECU's. Some computer nerd should be able to do it.

You also mentioned that it is shifting sloppy while in traffic. Might I recommend a trans cooler? Any bigger tire is gonna put stress on the trans, especially the converter. The converter uses fluid to create stall and in doing so it heats up the fluid. A cooler will keep temps down and she should shift like when you first start her up, all the time. Good luck.

Did some research

R150 trans is in my 92 4Runner 4x4 and also the 95-2004 tacoma

so you can get a great deal on a B&M Short Shifter on EBAY

As a Toyota Tech I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this because they are clearly not doing any ECU programming. They have a few fancy names for the service like "hydrobalancing" or whatnot, but they are obviously mechanically changing fluid passages (along with a new set of springs......may add/remove checkballs too, not sure) since all you need to do is send them your valve body. Hard to get any info on what exactly is being done technically because they are trying to protect their business interests (no surprise there). Too bad no one ever took a highres photo of the valvebody (fluid passage side) before/after so you could see what was changed. It seems this service works similarly on many of the import vehicles, all of which are computer controlled now.
