Ya, I was wanting to know how much it would cost to convert my 2wd into a 4wd. Or would it be cheaper to buy a junker and use mine for parts? (This will be interesting)

depends on what your goals are....

if your looking at a massive build up... SAS, dual cases, 35's etc you could start with what you have as all that is "replaced" or rebuilt on a 4x4 anyway...

if your just looking to gain 4wheel drive for adverse road conditions and limited off roading id say by a 4x4 to start with.

If you're looking to convert the truck in your avatar to 4WD, I would say A LOT

Better off buying a 4WD to start with , and going from there.

i was kinda laughing at you actually. not at your ride, i think its cool you are wanting to modify it and such, but i was laughing cause you dont have a job and are talking about some serious mods which require $$$ (money)
i am not trying to knock you or anything... get that job and the cash, come back and we will be more than happy to help you out!

Oh I know you were laughing at me, but I'm not looking for serious mods anyway. I just want 4x4 so I dont get stuck anywhere and possibly to do some minor 4 wheeling. I just think its stupid that people are bashing me without asking what kind of mods im looking for. I was looking for replies like this:

Listen, I gave you the best advice, and that's to get a 4x4...

Its important to look at what kind of ride you have when looking to "convert" to 4wd because a 2wd that's shares frames and rear suspensions with their 4wd counterparts (such as a 2wd 4Runner or Tacoma PreRunner) is relatively easy to convert to 4WD, since all you really have to do is add a T-Case to the tranny, geta front diff and axles, and new front spindles and d-shafts. With your truck, like it or not, you would have to have it gutted and built from scratch (we're talking completely custom fab, front and rear axles replaced, completely new suspension front and rear, new transmission and transfer case, driveshafts, etc. etc. etc. you'd almost be better off just taking the body off of your truck and grafting it on to a 4wd chassis, and then is that REALLY a 4wd conversion?

Sorry to offend, but sometimes the truth hurts. Just keep your truck as a daily driver for the MPG, and then buy yourself a late 80's pickup 4x4 for wheeling. Best of both worlds.

Im not sure if the standard 2wd transmission is going to work with a t case. I maybe wrong but Steve S. Told me I need a 4wd tranny to work with a t case.

Im SASin mine so im not gonna go bother tradin in. However if I were you (the guy who started the topic) if you can find a 4x4 in good condition and you wont have to pay much for the trade in.. thats prob the best bet

With all due respect, bro... In all of the replies to your question, I failed to find one that "bashed" you or your ride. You asked a question. It was answered. You wanted to know if it would be worth your time and effort to do a 4wd conversion to your 2wd truck. Telling you that it will take "A LOT" to do that to your truck is not bashing it, it's telling you the truth. I know of a few other forums that would have roasted you alive for asking your question. Here, you received good knowledgeable advice. Don't take it so personally.

Ok, I admit that I was being an ass, and I took it a little too personally, but come on, this is my first vehicle. I got it from my dad, and it had been sitting for about 5 + years. I just got it running. I have every right to defend it anyway. I dont want to argue about anything, But I dont want people calling my truck a peice of crap, either. I apologize for setting people the wrong way, I meant for it to be taken as sarcasm because I probably wouldn't have the money to fully convert it anyway. I was just curious as to what extent of trouble it would be to actually do it. hence, on the first post I did, I put "this will be interesting." Apologies, Sean.
