Gettting some new sliders made up for my 4runner, and also a custom rear bar with tyre carrier and thought I'd share some pics. It's all getting made by a mate that opened up a shop "Custom 4x4 Fabrications". All he does is custom 4x4 stuff, and is also building my rock crawling buggy for me.

Anyway, I had a mate make some sliders last year out of 3" tube, but they didn't stick out far enough to be able to be used as steps as well. Since I lifted the truck higher again, and fitted 35's, I want to be able to use the sliders as steps as well. I'm stoked with how they turned out!! Just got to get them powdercoated, which will be done in gloss black to suit the TJM Bar I've got up front.

 

Now for the rear bar...which is kinda based on the Big Country Customs Bar. He's building two of these at once, and has my mates Surf for the next couple weeks to finish the rear bars off. This way we each only have to go without out truck for a week.





Beefy mounts!! A plate will also be welded to the bottom of the blue rhs down to the taper of the rear bar.




The corners are going to be a work of art!!! This is the side that the tyre carrier will swing on....which is why some of the panel work under the light isn't covered. The other wide will hide all panel work the same as a stock bar would.

Looks good...are the legs on the sliders gusseted? I would have added 1 more in the middle.....but it looks great, and makes a nice addititon to an already nice truck!!

 

Yeah Marc, a gusset runs along the return tube to the U Bracket that bolts around the chassis. He asked if I wanted a third mount in the middle, but for the stuff I do in it, I told him it's not needed.

 

Looks good! Can't wait to see pics with them mounted.

 

Some more update pics, this time with the bar mounted on my truck!!

Most of the pics show the other guys bar, as it's bumper part is all finished as Brook still has his truck in the workshop....My bar is just tacked together, and he came down today so we could trial fit it. (His workshop is about 2 hrs away from where I am which makes it hard to test fit after each step)

Dougs Rear Bar - You can see Brook added another plate tapering back towards the front on the bottom of Dougs Rear Bar to see what it looks like....After looking at it all, and comparing it with mine which didn't have it, he is going to scrap that idea, and just leave it as shown in the pic above.

Really slick design and fab. One of the best fits I've see for a 2nd Gen. The lower lip of the tailgate and side wings always seem to make things difficult.

Great job. To bad shipping from Australia.

 

It is a shame I am only a 1 man ( & wife ) business just trying to make good quality & fitting gear. If a customer can leave me the 4wd I can pretty much guarantee a pretty good fit with the body work. Overseas work maybe on the cards in years to come ( I can only hope )

Twisty, simply awesome. I think your 'Runner is maybe the best rep of that gen on this or any other board. Curious, why TJM instead of ARB?

 

It won't be TJM soon..... as Dave (Twisty) will be getting a fr. bar from me now also.

The TJM bar come with the 4runner when I bought it, and I've done some mods to it to make it look a little more modern. But as Brooksy said (he's the guy building all this cool stuff!!) a new custom bumper will be built over the next phew months. So I'll all have matching "Custom 4x4 Fabrications" barwork!!

I'm searching my ass off at the moment looking for front bumper designs...

 

Heres a pic of some sliders Brooksy also made for Dougs Surf....They are similar to mine in design, but have aluminium checkerplate inserts.
