Finished the rear bumper and swing down stinger carrier--4Mogger

Dallas--my neighbor and welder extraordinaire and I have been slowly (like everything else on this rig) designing and tweaking the rear bumper. It began life as a custom bumper I had built by Stout Equipment in New Mexico. It served me well for about 10 years but was not quite up to the task of carrying and protecting a 40 inch tire/wheel combo-- plus I like the trend toward functional AND attractive designs and reasonable stinger type carriers. The main bumper section was retained mostly because it was very well made and I could not even imagine making another equal to it in sheer strength. We just tweeked it to make it fit a little better and began adding tube and gussets. We did shorten up the wrap around sides 5 inches to compensate for the rear axle having been moved back and the big tires. They were recapped and we were able to keep the built in design of the drain and gusset combo which is an idea ahead of its time that keeps the sides strong and lets them drain water and mud out.

We used tube clamps (.500 wall DOM!!!) that I got from Poison Spider Customs to connect the side bars to the rear bumper--that way it can still be removed pretty easily--depends if you consider 12 hex bolts for the clamps and 14 grade 8 bolts for the bumper easy.
The side gussets are functional and were designed on CAD and cut by waterjet.

The entire stinger swings down to access the tire and hi-lift. It is secured by a pin on each side and also by a clamp to keep everything rattle free.

Thanks. It took a lot of extra work to make it fit right and be perfectly square since it is so close to the vertical line of the tail light assembly--but it is .250 plate so the letters are nice and strong. You could smack the tip of the "M" with a sledge and it would be fine.
