Alarm toggle switch near light dimmer switch on '00 Sr5?

I think I have the factory installed alarm system.
What does the little red push button do on the dash to the left of the steering column!?

Thanks,
Mike

Pics would help, but on my 99 SR5 4runner I don't have a red button. Instead I have a red blinking LED. It's not red when it's off though.

Are you sure it's a button? Do you have a key-less entry? I can't turn on my alarm with out the key-less entry so I would find it odd if you have a button to turn on and off your alarm.

I'll try to get a pic...not sure if know how to post it tho!

Erich...sounds similar to what you have. I can push mine in and it clicks "inward" or I push it again and it pops out. I thought this was turning the alarm to on or off. I do have keyless entry.

I just went outside and checked...I guess all it is is a blinking LED for when the alarm is armed! LOL

^^that above is immobilizer light for chipped key.

yeah its stock alarm, but installed by a 3rd party installer, not in factory.

that button utilizes both a valet button and a LED.

I'm not sure that is correct. It's a pic of my rig (minus that hideous aftermarket wood grain ) and I have neither a chipped key nor a valet button.

It does however have the "breaking glass" microphone right below the LED.

I believe it is just the normal factory and not installed by a 3rd party.

youre right, im mistaken for the security light thats suppose to be near the rear window switch. disregard the comment i made above.

yeah, thats alarm led and glass break mic.

a lot of toyota alarm during those period use an installer from a local area to do the installation, they use couple model like rs3200(plug and play) and audiovox(required splicing, but they use t-taps instead). a fellow installer i know does these type of work for toyota along w/ lo-jack. so, those audiovox model are straight up 3rd party installation, but it seems like factory-like.

My rig has the same little push button, too, on the dash to the left of the steering colomn. It's blinking red LED when the alarm is armed. It clicks inward when pushed but pops out when pushed again. It blinks red LED in both positions.

The question is: what is this button for? I will post a picture, soon.

Here is another picture showing where the shock sensor is located (in the middle of the picture with red LED). The part number is 00014-S0274.

Is my alarm Toyota OEM alarm? And if not, what model/brand it might be?

Thanks.

From what I can tell that is not a Toyota alarm.
The 1999-2002 dealer installed alarm (RS3200), has a glass break sensor/LED that looks like the picture in post #7, and the ECU is tucked up near the driver's side of the stereo.

Did a little more research. It seems that the alarm system on my rig is aftermarket, possibly KARR 4040A. The push-button is a programming button to change to different settings (valet, lock/unlock chirps on/off, passive/active, emergency override, etc). With the push-button, programing the alarm appears to be easier than to program a RS3200 (OEM, without this button).

KARR user manual can be found here: http://mikehmayer.com/stuff/xB/KARR%204040a.pdf
