wheel bearing woes, please help

wheel bearing woes, please help

I need to change the wjeel bearing on my 01 Taco4x, but I'm haveing some probs getting the grease cap off. any suggestions? I would rather do it myself than spend the 500.

Its that black cap that fits tight around the end of the hub

Get a large flat chisel and lightly tap all the way around it with a rubber mallet.
It takes awhile, but it should start to move and pop off.
I also had to spray a lot of PB blaster on it

X2. I did the same... with a large flat screwdriver. Don't use anything small or pointy. That dust shield is pretty thin, and you can go right through it. I also sprayed it with a penetrant before starting.

You can also go to Autozone and buy a Grease cap removal tool, for 8 bux; it's basically a big pliers with jaws that'll grip the dust cap, but the methods mentioned above will work just as well. If you bang up the dust caps badly, you can always replace 'em cheaply.
