Well, air-con works

OK, my air-con went out two summers ago, and of course I could not afford to fix it working at my crappy job I had before I got my Boeing recall.

When you push the button, you would hear a grinding noise, and of course no cold air would flow.
The pump was seized, and if you pushed the button while next to someone, they would think your rig was about ready to blow.

Well, my motor may be shot, but the dang air-con started working today all by itself.

I pushed the button in today, and I heard static out of my CB speaker, but no grinding noise from under the hood
The static was the motor spinning up.
I turned the heat off all the way down to cold, and it started to blow ice cold air.

Middle of winter here, but I have air-con again
I wonder how it fixed itself.
I like that.
Self healing Toyota.
Now if only number three cylinder would fix itself and start working again.

Anyone ever hear of this happening before?

I hope it continues to work for you! I HATE itermittant problems. Absolute PITA to track down, and always waiting to bite you at the worst times!

We had a saying where I used to work that the only thing worse than a problem, is a problem that fixes itself!

Crazy... Maybe somthing to do with the colder temp shrinking a loose belt?
It will impress me more if it keeps working when its hot...

The common problem on these isn't the compressor but a pressure line that rubs through. and when there is no pressure the compressor will not spin up

Well if something was binding in mine earlier and making it do the grind, I should have taken a BFH to it long ago.
Not sure why it is working now.

Now I gotta get it in soon to an import shop and let them listen to the engine.
Always good to get a 2nd opinion.
Might be Toyota was wrong about the dead cylinder, and it might be an eaier fix than a new engine.

I still do not want to fork out the $$$ for a new engine on a vehicle that has a blue book value of less than $6K.

I saw a white '93 on www.vehix.com by me yesterday for $6K in great shape, but I am through with the 3.0s.
